Travels and Travails

There have been a few financial glitches in our plans since we moved. After the accident on June 21, we rented a car from Enterprise, and were told that the insurance will cover up to 30 days of rental costs. But the insurance company has notified Enterprise that rental coverage ran out on July 8 when we were supposed to receive the settlement agreement on our old car. So we have to fight our insurance company, since we haven’t received the check as of today.

To complicate things further, we found out yesterday when we tried to return the car in Concord that we can’t return it anywhere else except in the Southern California region. So on Thursday I have to drive 218 miles (3-1/2 hours) to Atascadero, the Southern CA location nearest to the Bay Area. Looking at it positively, this is much better than driving 416 miles all the way to Mission Viejo, from where we first rented it. I’ll be returning by Amtrak train to Martinez.

Evelyn, Rachel and I will be flying to Manila early on Tuesday, Aug. 2. We’ll arrive midday Aug. 3, so Rachel will miss the start of her school; we’ll try for an Aug. 4 start, if she’s over her jet lag. We have a rental house prospects which we’ll evaluate when we get there.

For those of you who are in Bay Area, I’ll be preaching 10 am and 5 pm on July 24 and 31 at Trinity United Reformed Church in Walnut Creek (1963 Tice Valley Blvd). These will be good opportunities to see you if you visit the church.
